Now I've a few days off from fishing, I shall finish some of my unfinished catch reports from the previous trip..:)

For those who never been to any boat fishing for wild toman before, you got lots to learn from.

Land base fishing for toman is totally different from boat fishing for toman.

You don't have the leniency of taking your own sweet time to cast and choose your spot slowly.

I only demand 2 important things from the anglers when fishing wild toman with me in Thailand.

Fast & accuracy in your casting, that's all.

Work hard on it and I promise you will get your toman eventually.

I fully understand that it is very hard for any first time toman angler to balance himself well on the wooden sampan boat. But it actually very easy to master the acts of balancing the boat... haha !!!

The more different terrains you fish, you more you learn.

If you choose to fish the same old toman spot over and over the again, you will never learn to aquire new knowlegdes and fishing skills...

Learning to fish this prized toman fishes doesn't end when you landed your last catch.

It a never ending process. In facts, the lesson just started when you land your last catch......

I love to fish side by side with those avid toman anglers on the same boat. We learn from each other.

There is no such thing as you know it all.......although I've landed countless of toman, I'm still hunger for more.....

For those who just pickup toman fishing, here the tip for you guys.

3 Big Misses On Monster Toman N Plenty Of Chances By BKKGUY

It is every angler dream to land a Monster Giant Snakehead aka Toman in the wild.

The funny thing about the Giant snakehead (toman) of Thailand is that you may hookup the fish but you may not be successfully land the fish.

A great peace of mind and patience is the key.

Of course, fast and accuracy casting also equally important when fishing for toman in the wild.

Just work on what the advises been given to you, you will be ok.

That's the big challenge of fishing Big Game fishes like the Giant Snakehead fishing in the wild.

The thing about toman is that their head are all bony and hard. Those normal treble hooks or single hook 1/O hook at times difficult to pierce through their hard bony mouth. Unlike big mouth bass N barramundi where their mouth are soft . It is much easy to set the hook in these fishes than toman.

A stiff rod of 10-20Ibs rod will do the job. Once the toman is hooked, set the hook twices. With a stiff backbone, you can easily pierce the hook through the toman mouth.
Beside a strong backbone rod, you also need a good quality braided line.

I've used a few other PE braided brands in the past and I finally settle for Variva line of Japan.Strong and lasting.

Varivas jigging line PE4 BRID x 8.

You will never goes wrong with it.

Though it a little more expensive than your usual braided line .

But when you think of losing your favorite lure to the fish and lose the big fella , it worth to change to a better quality premium brand.

The worst nightmare for any angler is to find your big fish gonna away because your main line snapped during the fights.

The weather also play a big part when come to wild fishing.

In the most usual day, the morning session will be calm , follows by strong winds in the afternoon.

If we're lucky, we'll have a full day of no winds and very calm water.

That's will be the best day for fishing.

On my 6 days fishing adventure with one of my french angler , we supposed to fish at 4 differents fishing locations. Due to the bad weather and reported strong winds, we were been forced to settle for the last 2 remaining fishable spots.

Despite the bad weather and strong winds, we still managed to perform N land a few MAMA toman.

My french angler (Vincent)was been pulled into the water when the MAMA toman took his crank bait lure.This is the first time, I ever witnessed an angler been pulled into the water by a Giant Snakehead.

We missed a few biggies and chased a few MAMA toman.

If it is not because of the bad weather we could have landed more.

Well...... that wild fishing.

It is like a game as what my french angler Vincent told me.

I went back to the 'same spot ' 2 DAYS later with another angler from Netherland, guess what ???

We landed 2 monster toman, one 7KG and the other 10KG dream toman.

Fishing in the wild, you need patience and open mindset.

"It not the fish that you are after, it is the challenge within yourself.

Once you have conquered your thinking, you will get your fish eventually.

What the biggest birthday gift for me for this year???

To land another monster size toman - A massive N whoppy 10KG , barely 2 DAYS after my birthday.

The feelings N the excitement that day simply hard to describe......awesome fights...:)

I was there with my Netherland angler, he has a few missed on the big toman N MAMA toman too.

But that wild fishing, you just dunno when the next big one is going to hit....

I've landed many MAMA tomans N those singles averg size 5-6KG.

The last time I hit on a 11.5Kg (on land base), that was 1 year ago..

This catch was different from that 11.5KG catch because when you fought the big monster toman on a boat.

The difficulty level of the fights was more challenging N unexpected.

You don't know when the monster toman will make the next dive under the boat.

By record, those singles toman are much stronger N heavier than those MAMA toman.

The MAMA tomans always have to keep looking after her baby fry thus doesn't feed well during these the fry period.

Unlike the singles toman which constantly looking for her next meal.

Fat N strong fights , that what I can say about those singles toman fishes..:)

The minute the monster toman hit my buzz bait lure, it made an attempted to dive towards the nearest bushes.

Luckily I'm using a strong braided line- Varivas.

This type of PE line can withstand the hash abrasion caused by the main line rubbing against the thick bushes.

Due to the nature of the wild toman fishing , I always inform my coming anglers to use a higher PE braided line.

You can never tell where you gonna get a strike from the monster toman.

Can be anywhere !!!! Just remember that no every toman hookup happen in the open and free from underwater obstacle.

I've been looking high N low for the monster size toman in Thailand. The last time I ever landed a real monster size toman( above 10KG) , that was 1 year ago.

It was that 11.5KG monster toman 1 year ago that make my addiction to toman (Giant Snakehead) so deep , a habit hard to kicks till today.

Ever since then, I've been searching high N low in Thailand for the monster toman (10KG N above) in the wild. Unlike those pond type toman, where you can feed them to 10KG. The monster wild toman , pound by pound fights the strongest N more aggressive than any other freshwater fishes .

Driving great distant from 200KM to 500KM within 1 day in search of your dream catch, is not surprise to some hardcore anglers toman lovers like myself.

That day, I managed to get another close.... close.... encounter with this monster toman of 10KG N above. I came face to face with this monster toman. Just when I was about to land it, it make another dashed underneath the boat and got away.....Yes, right infront of my eyes.... Sigh !!!!

Damn.... the feeling of losing the big fish make me lose sleep for 2 nights..

I went back to the same spot the following week , hopefully to have a chance to catch the monster toman again.

Well.... like most other wild fishing elsewhere in the world. The fish will not wait for you.... end up I landed another 5KG MAMA toman as a compensation and comfort for my trip.... ;)

Snakehead or in asia we call them "haruan", the smaller family of Giant Snakehead (Toman) is one of the fishes you will get to fish if you happen to fish in the wild dam.

The fry MAMA season is coming to and end soon as Thailand slowly change the season from raining to cool season.
I'll be targeting those individual toman in the deep water using deep diver lures like risto rap.

The fights and strength of these individual toman fishes are much stronger than those fry MAMA.
Beside toman, there will be wild sebarau (jungle perch) to fish in the wild.
Haruan is also one of the smaller game fish we can lure fishing in the wild.

One of my target fish for 2012 will be featherback (belinda) fish . I'm going for ambitious mission of targeting this wonder fish on lure in Dec.
Wait for my catch report then.

In the meantime, enjoys one of my snakehead (haruan) trip I done recently at the dam.

Despite the bad condition of the water clarity (red water), I can manage to land another whoppy 5KG PAPA toman. I seem proud of myself.

In wild fishing, the nature and the surrounding is your teacher.

Hunting for massive monster MAMA toman in Thailand , need great amount of fishing skills & local knowledges.

I bought along 8 different types of toman lures & frogs, in the end rubber ribbit lure still work best.

What lure to use, largely has to depend on what kind of terrains you're fishing and the situations during the 'hot MAMA pursuits'

That require great amount of wild fishing experience.

Woke up in the wee morning, drove 400KM to my MAMA destination is no joke.

Only avid toman lovers / anglers can apply for my job. haha !!!

Important: Do practise catch & release whenever you can while fishing in the wild especially when come to MAMA toman.
Without the mother toman by baby toman side, all baby toman fry will die eventually or been eaten up by other fishes.

There are hundreds of natural reserviors and dams within bkk and around bkk regions. Getting there is one thing, knowing what to do ??? What to expect ??? How to fish in the wild is another matter. Not everyone know how to fish in the wild especially when come to Thailand toman (snakehead) fishing in the wild. Thailand toman is aggressive and strong.

You can reach the famous Srinakarain dam and the beautiful Kao Laem dams within 3-4hrs drive from bkk by car.

A 1 DAY fishing trip is possible but I would suggest to fish at least 2 DAYS to make the fishing trip more relax and rewarding.

Toman season has arrived, I brought my elder son Michael for his first virgin mama toman trip with me. Show his some ropes on landing the mama toman.

Fishing in the wild need local knowledge and basic fishing skills. Bait cast will be good but not necessary .... a good 2500-3000 spinning reel can do the job.

Biggest landed 5.5KG . My son joined me in the afternoon, we were chasing after a big toman fry, he was lucky to land a whoppy 7KG toman by himself. I'm proud of him !!!

Kaiser Pro shop co partner - Mark Richard approched me some month ago to arrange for a 2 DAYS wild toman fishing trip in Thailand. There are many dams and reserviors in Thailand. If you choose the wrong spot to fish, you may end up nothing..

There is only 1 thing in Mark's mind, an attempt to fish the monster size toman (5KG & above) to make his day full. Like he said to me: "You can land 8-10 small size toman in 1 day but at the end of the day, it every angler's dream to land a monster size toman to make their dream come true."I totally agreed with that statement.

I've chosen to fish 2 different spots for our 2 DAYS of monster toman hunting adventure. At least we got to fish 2 different locations and has 2 different scenery to enjoys.

Thailand toman is famous for their bull strength and aggressive. Their body length is also longer than those toman found in Malaysia and other part of asia.

Beforehand, I've advised Mark what to bring and what to prepare. Wild toman strenght is much stronger than those pond toman. I should say at least 2 X stronger and more aggressive.

So proper tackles and lures must be use- Otherwise you may lose your dream fish.

Toman Season !!! Toman Fry !!! - Part 1 By BKKGUY

The toman season has just began......and I'm getting all ready to hit at those wild mama toman whenever and wherever. Wild toman fishing in Thailand is a BIG GAME SPORT here. Not for any aveg angler. You need to be fast, accurate and eyes must be sharp....

With the right tackle and lures then can ensure your sucessfully landing of the mama toman.

Any boatman can bring you to the fry but how you get the mama to whack your lure, that's something the angler has to figure out himself. Btw, not every toman fry is easy target.

I love the challange of chasing the toman fry for 1-2hrs. It's like a mind playing game of man vs the fish. Better than anything in the world.. haha !!!

Of all the toman fry, those frys which are reddish color & the size of the small tadpole, are the most difficult to target of all.

Just when you think you can agitate the mama toman by distrubing the baby fry, you'll be in for a big surprise. After you've casted 4-5 castings, you will eventually see the small tiny red pool of toman fry gather in 1 small group. The mama toman will then appear from beneath & took her baby fry into her mouth and dive under the water.

Instead of getting the mama toman to be angry, the angler will get frustrated first... haha !!!

I have 1 miss on the mama toman and another hooked up but loss the fish during netting.... Damn.... I'm going to return for my revenge trip soon...

This round, will wait for the fry to grow the size of the cig butt size. That's when the mama toman can't take the frys into its mouth. Any intruders or lures within the 1m radius of the fry, will be attacked by the mama toman for sure.

Topwater Actions With Mama Toman !!! Damn Good !!! By BKKGUY

Damn !!! I got return to 'her' for more actions !!!

This trip round , I brought along my video cam. I specifically instructed my boatman to take some good shots at the topwater actions on my lure when I'm pressuring the mama toman during chasing.

It is fun !!! It is electrifying !!! I simply love topwater actions !!!

I always have the liking of mama toman, their beautiful strips and destination color pattern. The joys of having your topwater lure in actions when the mama whack the lure. It really exciting & your heart can stop beat for a second. haha !!!

Pound by pound it is still the BEST & STRONGEST freshwater fish in asia.

So when I heard of news of mama toman with baby fry in a dist location DAM off bkk, I loadup my fishing gears, lures box and off I go for yet another wild fishing adventure trip.. ;)

The distant drive 400KM (4HRS) from bkk city.

Fishing toman fry in Thailand is not as easy as some pPls think. You need alots of patience, endurance and it mind fishing game with you vs the mama toman.

As more & more local thai anglers practise catch & release in Thailand. You will not be surprised to see a mama toman been hooked up before. Once those mama toman hooked up once, it will be very wary of lure and will not strike so easy..

If that is the case, you need to keep pestering & pressure the toman fry. For those young & impatience anglers, after a few castings may give up chasing the fry.

For angler like myself, who love the great challenge & love the mind fishing game with the mama toman. As long as the mama toman starte to chase the lure away from its fry, I know I'll have the chance. It is only matter of time, it will bite my lure.

But still, you have only 1 chance if the mama strike. If the mama toman bite your lure and you failed to give a good strike. It will not bite again for the next 3hrs or so... Having a proper set of medium-heavy tackle and hooks are important for a 'home run' on the mama toman.

My recommended tackle for toman :
Rod : 10-20Ibs
Line: Braided Power Pro PE 3 or 4
Hooks: Change all split rings and strong 4X hooks.
Lures: Bring all kind of topwater lures and deep diver lures.

Nothing beating fishing in the wild...- the saying goes... :)

Not only I share the same sentiment, there are many avid anglers like Fred Goh( Rapala rep ), Darren Shan (Kingfisher mag editor) and another SG avid angler Chong, we all share the same likeness and common hobby to fish in the wild... :)

Myself , together with Rapala rep- Fred Goh, Kngfisher editor and magazine - Darren Shgan and invited guest Chong (from SG) , we had 2 FULL DAYS of wild sebarau fishing in a distant nature dam off bangkok , some 300Km(3hrs) drive by transport.

Fishing in the wild is like going for an adventure fishing trip. You never know what you're going to get that day. More like wild hunting trip.... ;)

First DAY !!!
We landed a total of almost 50++ sebarau (jungle perch) + 3 toman fishes by Fred Goh. Man....... thiss is what I call good fishing trip... ;)

2nd DAY !!!
The 2nd day was also as exciting as the first day, manage to land 20-30 pieces .....

What day !!!! What a trip to remember !!! ;)

The weather in Thailand is getting weird. In the month of march suppose to be hot , the temperature dropped to between 18-20 degree in bangkok for the past few days.The southern part of Thailand especially Surit Thani is flooded from the past weeks of rainings.

I had to put up my cold sweater while going for fishing trips. :(!!!

Looking at my rather tight fishing schedules, I managed to squeeze 1 DAY of toman wild fishing trip for my own leisure fishing.

Drove some 300KM in the wee morning (12.00AM) and be back late night at 10.00PM and then be ready for the next morning fishing trip at 5.00AM, is not everybody cup of tea. Only a crazy addicted toman angler like myself will do that... haha !!!

Despite the cold spells I managed to land a nice size 5KG toman (snakehead) and missed a few small takes on sebarau, haruan and little toman.

The biggest catch of the day is spending time for myself with the nature. Only me and the nature, away from city.

Understanding the nature, different tactic & presentating of lures in the wild fishing ground. Things like these, you need to experience it yourself. The more you fish in the wild,, the more experience & avid angler you'll become in the future.

The distant from bkk to the fishing destination is about 350KM ( 3hrs drive). Both were excited about the wild fishing trip with me. After all, this is their very first time fishing in a wild environment in Thailand. Along the way to our fishing destination, I've to feed them as many info as possible to get them familiar about wild fishing scene.

The wild fishing trip itself is already challenging. The experience of the trip is an adventure we keep for memories.

Trying something new and get out of comfort zone is what true fishing is all about. Like in NIKE Sport logo: "Let Do It ".

For sebarau fishing , any catch above 1kg on light tackle is already a good fights. Our dear Dr. Billy here was lucky enough to hit on a 2KG sebarau on top water lure. The joys of seeing him hitting a jackpot sebarau fish of that size in the wild, it hard to describe. I was on the same boat as him, I'm happy for him too.

Off topic abit, my personal target for sebarau will be 4KG. Not at this dam but somewhere even further. Just waiting for the right time , a phone call from my boatman and I off to a IGFA record under class line. Wish me luck !!

We landed a total of 19 sebarau on top water lure that day. Be it sunny or heavy downpour of rains in mid day. These guys still stand put and fish all the way under the rains.

This will be fishing trip Billy and Gary will not forget.

I brought Harold (American angler) to have 1 DAY fun of sebarau fishing(jungle perch) in Thailand. This is the very first time Harold visits Thailand. He has never fish in this part of asia before.

He own a fishing boat back in USA and guided some of the great offshore sport fishing himself back home.

He has always wanted to try the freshwater fishing in Thailand. It will be great to introduce two of the prized freshwater fishes of asia - The Toman & Sebarau.

As this period is not the toman month yet, we'll have to settle for some sebarau fun fishing at one of the distant dam.

After a few tips from me here and there, Harold is ready to rock and rolls on him own.... ;)!!!!

Given his limited experience in freshwater fishing in this part of Thailand. A fast learning angler like himself, very fast he transform to be a sebarau killer and landed 15 pieces of sebarau in 1 DAY. The prized fish of the day is this 2KG sebarau landed on topwater lure. Not bad at all. :)

The fights and beautiful scenery are enough to get him all excited to visit asia again. Hopefully he will bring more of his big game fishing buddies to fish in Thaiand.

What day !!! What a relaxing trip for me !!!

Whenever I'm not going for any fishing trips. I would take my car, go for a spins and look for potential wild fishing spots for wild toman & sebarau around the countryside..

This particular fishing location , not far from bkk (250km -2.5hr drive) has many sebarau. For many fans of sebarau (jungle perch)anglers - This catch report will be a delight for you.

I landed some 20 sebarau fishes and missed a dozen more , all landed on my topwater lures. The said location has many seasweeds thus usage of those deep diver lures & spoon is out of the question.

This trip is just a warmup trip for me, to test out my topwater lures.

I'm targeting sebarau of monster size 3-5kg at the mid of this year.
Location- Top Secret !!!
Angler- Only myself + 1 thai angler as I'm waiting for the 'signal' from my inside boatman. Once he phone me about the water level & the size of the sebarau at the dam, I'll quickly pack my tackles and drive straight there to fish 2 DAYS, hopefully will make a record for myself.

A dream come true for Buck & his personal record broken.
Buck specially flew to Thailand , together with his son to fish the giant snakehead with me.

Buck has 5 big hookups but failed to land the monster toman.

Hookup his very first toman , fought it for a good 5mins and lost the fish.
Boatman said , close to 9KG. The boatman net just too small for it.

I just happened to foul hook up a 8kg patin on my light tackle setup.

My powerful Daiwa Ryoga 1016H is just too strong for the fish. haha !!!!

Just want to share another wild toman trip I did 2 days ago. Hand itchy and also to test out some of my rapala lures. The journey is rather challenging, some 500KM from bkk city. The day before I just have a fishing trip with a fella SG angler to Pilot 111. I had less than 5 hrs of sleep , chop !! chop !!! packed my lures and tackles and hit the road. Left bkk city at 1.30am and reach there almost 5.30am. The weather was fine and less winds. Landed 2 monster toman 8.02KG & 5.40KG and lost one really big one . Still falls short of my personal target of > 10KG toman in order to submit for my IGFA World Record. I will be away fishing toman for the next 3 DAYS (17th-20th Dec) with SG anglers (father & son team) for another attempt for the toman record purpose. Wish us luck !!! The hunt is on ................for the legend monster toman secret lake in Thailand. I heard about it !!! We talk about among the thai lurers !!! It a well keep secret among the top toman lovers in Thailand. Very few thai anglers know about this well kept place and not to mention to share.....

Rumours & many stories flying around said recently , there is this local thai lurer landed a monster 18KG toman (snakehead) in the said lake. Rare catch of this kind of size only can be heard of in the past. Due to overfishing in many dams, seldom you will land any toman above 10KG in the wild.

Toman there in size range from 5-20kg, 4X VMC hooks broken & straighten !!! Rod broken to pieces !!!

As more big catch stories floating round , the more excited I'm getting.

But then , I heard from those who went that those toman there NOT easy to land or catch on lure !!! You must do some preparation and be a savvy lurer yourself before you attempt this place. If not, the least is your casting skills must be precise and accurate !!! Deep diver crank bait lure is the favorite there !!!

We'll do spot casting : Meaning to say when we see the toman come to the surface to breath air, we must cast fast and accurate to the spot where it surface !!! Sound easy but need many self practises before you can perfect your casting !!!

Time spent fishing with you pass by too fast!! I think we learn much about angling from you.
Really I didn't think we were going to catch much that day as the bite was slower than last month.
I thought I had fishing figured out, sometimes you catch more sometimes less. I was glad just to be beside still water and fishing anyway. But then you showed us something that really left an impression. Your perseverance and that never give up attitude really proved to us that getting fish is not just by luck. Keep casting, keep trying. I think the others present that day would feel the same too.

I was already very satisfied getting the first Arapaima when nobody else was getting any (Just like last month!!).
Actually I was ready to call it a day and pack up but I remember hearing you say 'keep the rod in. 1 more rod, 1 more chance'. Then BOOM!! A second and LARGER Arapaima right at the last minute!! Both times we fished with you we were the only ones getting this fish among all the other guides and anglers. I think that really proves you are head and shoulders above them!!

Really looking forward to the next time I can get more time off from work and go fishing with you again.
Mean time I will keep practicing my casting and lure presentation. Hope to join you for a wild fishing trip when I'm ready.
I'm sure I'll get to learn much from you again!!

I've just returned from a 3 DAYS exotic and exciting trip to the border line between Burma & Thailand. The views & scenery are exotic and beautiful. I've spent the last 3 DAYS fishing wild toman & sebarau non stop, away from the city jam, pollutions, noises and back to mother nature for comfort.

This wild fishing trip is not suitable for any averg newbie angler.
You need to be at least reasonable good in your casting and luring.There is no special chumming or bait to help you there. It you & your lure then come your prized/dream fish.

The only best advise I can offer you is my local knowledge and tips on which proper popper/ surface lure to use for the best strike.

For this fishing ground , buzz bait spinning lure won't work at all. Local frog lures and good size popper lures work BEST.

On top of that, you need to get yourself balance & comfortable on the wooden sampan boat, get yourself familiar with the surrounding weeds and tale sign of toman and sebarau coming up to the surface to breath for air......

You got to be fast and precise in your casting. I would highly recommend BC reel for east casting and speed when come to wild fishing.

No city comfort like air con or shower point on top fo the floating house. A dip in the cooling dam water is good enough to make your body relax after a hard day luring. The foods here are super, much better than the city I would say.

Fishes you can expect you gethere are rohu, wild patin, featherback, wild barramundi(20KG) , giant snakehead and jungle perch (Sebarau) etc. But we only interested to target the giant snakehead & jungle perch fo their surprise attack on surface lures.

Giant Snakehead: size 2KG- 15KG
Sebarau (Jungle perch): 1.5KG-6KG

My averg catch size for the past 3 days:

Jungle perch : 2-3KG
Toman: 1.5KG- 6KG

What a day !!! What a fish !!!

Just came back from Khon Khen (Northeast Thailand) with family (6hrs drive 500km), reached bkk at 12.00am. Chop !!! Chop packed my Daiwa Zillion , Shimano Calcutta tackle, 1 Loomis rod and 1 valley hill rod and my wild fishing lures, drove over to my thai kaki fishing pond to watch the World Cup final match between Spain and Holland.

After the game finished at 3.00am, without even close an eye, we set off for our sebarau wild fishing as planned at one of the nearby dam. The journey to there is about 1.5hrs drive, asked my thai kaki to takeover the wheel while I quickly steal some sleep before we reach there.

I was like deep into my sleep suddenly got a wakeup call from my kaki.

Pom: " Hey , John deng dai liao (wakeup !! reach already)
Myself: " Ler, thai mai lue jiang (Why so fast reach ? )
Pom: Do !! Do !! Swee mai !!! Jiao !!! (Look !! Look !! Nice place or not ??? Perfect man!!!)

The rest is history....... keke!!!!

We started fishing around 9am cos we got to wait for our bungalow which was occupied by night anglers night before. By 10am in the morning we already got more than 10 fishes, good sizes, mostly around 20-30, some smaller ones around 10-20 kg. It was non stop, your blue Thomas stroker was actually very lucky, kept on getting so many bites, we don't have to wait for long for the bites, cast and sometimes within 2 f**king minutes we got a fish already!! I have to tell John to slow down, even Joachim was tired after landing so many fishes.
I like John, especially his pleasant friendly personality, he is a fantastic fishing guide and his helper is also a nice guy. I highly recommend him if you need a guide. I shall certainly use his service again.

One of your customer, he said you have taught him to fish long time ago, K L Wong came to look see and ended up fishing with us. Today he has booked John. I think Joachim will be joining them today also. We got many nice photos and will send it to you soon, big file, maybe will burn it into a CD and send it to you. John's camera got some nice photos too.

Finally got a time off to go for my regular toman fishing. My favorite pastime fishing of all time.

Toman (snakehead) fishing is very additive game fishing sport. The toman fishes are smart, cunning & ferious fish. The sudden attack on your topwater lure can give any angler into ecstasy mood. Many japanese and foreign anglers love to fish toman in Thailand.
All claimed , thailand toman to be the most agressive and strongest toman among others.

I always tell those coming anglers that if you want to land your dream thai toman fish. You have to work hard towards it (never give up attitude )and most important must learn to 'listen to my advice and knowledge'. Whatever tactic and lures you apply back home, may not work here.

Hardwork + 'listen and follow' the instruction given, you will eventually land your dream toman in Thailand.

Don't forget, this is not any pond fish.
We are fishing in the wild surrounding.
That the challenge !!! The personal fulfilment !!!

50KG Chao Phraya Catfish & 38KG Arapaima By BKKGUY

On thursday morning , I brought my whole family to Greenvalley fishing resort for a holiday vacation.

It was a wonderful trip, I landed a 50KG Chao Phraya Catfish and a 38kg Arapaima. Before that in the early morning, I missed landing a 80kG arapaima. The giant arapaima fought for a good 10mins before it went under the metal gate and the line just snapped. What a waste !!!

Back in my mind, I was trying to aim for their biggest residence fish- a 150KG & 180KG arapaima. Till today , hold the record for the 'biggest arapaima' in term of weight in Thailand.

Caught a dozen of their redtails, 5-6 of their monsters aligator gar and a few black pacu fishes.

Must give thanks to the owner of the fishing resort, who has given me & my family a V.I.P treatment while we were there.Will be back for more actions in the future...

I made a trip up north to Chiang Mai to meet up with Bobby- The pro fly fishing angler of Thailand. I had a wonderful half day tour around his little town and once a liftime thai masheer fly fishing (half day) experience within the beautiful Karen mountains.

It an eye opening for me. Bobby is very accomodating person, really know how to pamper his invited guest. With only half day (4 hrs of fly fishing), we landed some 10 fishes. Of course, needless to say that Bobby landed the most fishes. haha !!!

Given my limited experience in stream wild fishing, I managed to land 2 thai blue mahseer and 1 other species. There are hundreds if not thousands of thai mahseer fishes swimming around us at the river. What sight !!! But still, must give thanks to Bobby , for his patience and good guidance to help me land my dream fish (thai mahseer) on fly. I can't believe a countryboy like Bobby is well trained in fly fishing by many famous overseas fly fishing mentors. His concept and thinking on fly fishing is second to none. Well done Bobby !!! ;) Once again, thanks for your great hospitalilty.

Despite all the unrest and political turmoil that Thailand was facing, me and MR AT headed down to Thailand for our share of fishing.
We bought tickets way before all the troubles started and was deciding between postponing the trip or simply just BOCHUP..
I guess the decision to bochup proved to be fruitful. There was no sign of any trouble at all. The good thing though, was that there was
no other customers of any other guides that were there! We had the whole place to ourselves, regardless of it was BSR or Boon Mah.
Day before the trip, the protests ended. The only problem was the curfew which was still
on but ended a day later. Afterall, we were there for fishing and not anything else.......not this time...

Surprisingly it was a lot more peaceful due to the lack of tourist..we sorta expected that...
It was my first time meeting and fishing with John, as AT was the one liasing with him for the trip. He was already waiting at the hotel by the time we arrived.
I was amazed by his honesty and forthrightness, as he told us the pros and cons of doing each place that we were going. We had not decided on a fixed
itinerary yet. We came up with a plan eventually and were ready to go.

DAY 1:
We had hit after hit to a total tally of 90 between 2 people. The hits on popper were ridiculous and our lures were totally damaged and lost. I was
laughed at by John when he looked at my tackle...undersized and underpower...but i guess thats the thrill of it isnt it?
The takes were explosive and powerful, I swear even if I hooked and threw a ciggerette butt, the fishes would have just as much gone for it.
For AT, it was his first time luring and now....He has been POISONED.
We moved on for some proper luring much later and a more matured pond...a chance for us to try out all our lures. That went very well, as I had expected
a much lower bite rate. But we were hitting fishes at a very decent rate.
SIBEH SONG.

Day 2:
BSR was a first time for Mr AT and even suggested a 2 day bsr trip....i told him he was freaking crazy....and decided to let him try it out before
he can say anymore.....
AFTER 15 Mekhong Catfishes later.....he told John to stop casting out....with a "please".....
Of course, the highlight was a much awaited MEkhong above 40KGS...and we actually did it....
Mr AT(beginners luck) was fighting a mekhong catfish for a long time, thinking it was a 20kg fish....prob wondering why it took so long to land.
THe fish eventually came back...but we couldnt see it at all as it had never surfaced for the whole duration...only at the end....the fish actually went into the stilts
and tore the line. We thought it was lost but AT noticed the float still running around. John promptly grabbed whole of the other rod and managed to "lure" the float in.
Lo and behold....after a CRAZY 5 min fight...the fish was landed...much to John's excitement...(never saw a fishing guide so excited before in my life)
Objective 1 achieved.
Since AT and Me was not able to raise anymore Mekhongs...we ask John to stop fishing....instead...(my own personal target) to try for the Siamese CARP. We tried for Carp
while John continued torturing AT with MORE MEKHONGS....Luckily I managed to "siam" by pretending to watch the rod for Carp. BoonSong the thai guide told me that the carps were
here as we could observe bubbles....hmmm.....there was a scare from a smallish patin which took the bait....it wasnt too small actually, about 10 KGS....but not what I WANT...
I assumed the carp would have left due to the disturbances....which totally didnt prepare me for the take...probably abt 1hr 30 mins of fishing for it.
The fight was great, fast and aggressive....and i never thought that we would even get it...
John, mr super excited went screaming "PUMP PUMP PUMP" X 10000 and didnt allow me to rest for a second....wow.....
when i netted it...i was...exhausted...with Joy and the adrenaline rush.

Thank you Mr john, it was a perfect day so far...see u tml for the last day of fishing..
Perfect trip so far...great help with everything...we were especially surprised by his honesty and willingness to teach us with regards to anything we might not be aware of.

Day 3:
The objective of our trip have been met...therefore we decided to pop back to Boon mah for some last min lure testing....supposedly a relaxing trip turned into a popper casting session. We were assigned a slightly matured pond as we just wanted to rest and do some casting for only the willing fishes...however the weirdest thing happened.
When it started to drizzle...but it continued to be as warm as hell...when the rain stopped and the sun came out for the rest of the whole afternoon...we discovered that the KBLs were near the surface when our minnow plastics refused to be "eaten".
Our poppers started flying out and next thing we knew...it was a popper frenzy...
Our Popping Virgin Mr AT became the KING of Poppers when the fishes kept going back to his unknown popper lure....cast after fast it was hit again and again!....as for me....
I HAD ZERO.....
until i found out his secret...when i used his tackle for awhile....interesting...i decided to test out his technique with my popper and voila!....Wahahaha.....

We got so tired with popping and popping...and hit after hit...that for the last 1 hr we started to lure without hooks...that was fun though...as we had multiple hits on one retrieve.
Me and John started teaching mr genius AT how to use the BC...I have to say...he is a naturally talented angler...will see how deep the poison is when we get back to singapore...
after i help him with buying new tackle....

Great Job John...it was a very good trip....something me and AT really looked forward to despite all the nonsense that had happened recently..months of sitting in front of my office table...FINALLY!
Will get back to you when i head back to BKK...with Mr AT aka. Popper King...and our other kakis...

It not an easy task but neither hard.Hard work and patience do payoff when come to lurng your dream fish here in IT Monsters lake. Unlike baiting, lurers need to believe in himself , never die attitude and be consistant when come to cranking the lure. ;)

Yesterday was a perfect day for Daniel at IT Monsters lake. He landed a 12KG Barra in wee morning 6.45am and then 10 min later, hooked up a 60KG Arapaima on his amazing Yamato lure which I've helped him to buy 6 pieces before we head for IT Monsters lake. In SG , I think Wenlong is selling it at his shop.

Thank you very much for giving us a memorable experience in Thailand. We did not know what to expect as none of us are really experienced in fishing at all. Except from your website we know very little about Mekong Catfish. But after the trip, wow, the size of the fish and the fight with each of them...these memories just keep flashing back. No doubt it was real tired trying to get our act together - reeling and stamping on the planks..., we all had fun. Our senior folks, were enjoying themselves too (with massage) and my mom was thrilled to try throwing the bait out. Thankfully your rod did not fly out too. The kids had so much fun too. They will thrilled to see that Mekong Catfish is as big as them. Having them experienced the fight and successfully bringing those fishes up is something that they cannot experience back home. We are pretty sure these memories will stay with them for a long time since each of them did have a chance to fish with the adults. Thanks for arranging for the massage, the food and making us feel at home even though we were actually in a fish farm. We hope to see you next time when we visit Thailand again. 65KG Giant Siamese Carp Fish Landed.

Here's a quick report as the pictures are here.

IT Monsters is farther away than BSR and is open from 0600 to 2000. As the lure fishing is best at first light it was a 0430 pick up to be there for 0600, plus you beat the traffic at that time. The lake is stocked with a variety of unusual fish including Arapaima and Alligator Gar from the Amazon, along with loads of redtail catfish. It's lure only until 1400 but with a twist as you can buy live baitfish which get thrown in to get the fish in a feeding frenzy and make your lure very attractive.

After 1400 dead bait can be used. I had 4 early fish and then it went quiet until we could use the bait but I kept myself amused walking round luring, and had a couple more hook ups but lost them. later in the day the fish came back on and I caught my best of the day, a 35kg redtail which led me a dance around the lake. Altogether I had 12 redtail, 1 barramundi and 3 boku which look a bit like permit.

At about half six the mozzies came out in force so it was time to go home. As mentioned previously, fishing is not cheap here and that jaunt set me back 240 pounds; pity the weather was a bit against me, but that's fishing! John the guide worked his socks off once again and I thoroughly recommend him.

Thanks guys, especially to bkkguy aka John who made this trip such a memorable one... Well, I broke one of my NEW 40lb rod which I made especially for this trip and I was still smiling cuz I was expecting the mekongs to do that.

The best rod length to use there is about 6ft/ 50lb setup minimum imho cuz you will never know what's coming next.

John is a reliable and trustworthy guide...we booked him 6mths in advance and few days b4 our trip, we were impressed tat he sms us to remind us...upon reachin bkk we recieve his sms to confirm pick up again...we do not hafta remind him at all, he remind us...he's very helpful, if u ask him for help and its within his means, he will definately extend his helping hand...love his service, his attentiveness and photography...the 1st time i was at Boom Ma i hardly noe how to lure, he was bside me the whole time, patiently teaching me and constantly changing my lures for me...he only took his 1st rest upon seeing tat i am more "stable"...with him around, my hubby do not even hafta worry about me and enjoy his fishing...his service is beyond excellence...my hubby and i will definately go back to him when we are in BKK ready to fish!

ALbert, Loy and I just got back from Bangkok and we are still talking about our fishing trip. We had such a wonderful time, I wanted to give you some feedback from the 3 of us. The trip was professionally conducted in several aspects, namely having the right hands on deck at Lake IT to 'help' out with baiting and spoting of fish. This was a major plus point as the local knowledge of the lake and the feeding habits of the fish both from yourself and your other helpers allowed us to land the many fish that we caught. Overall, the service was great and your customers all had a memorable time.Just one feedback which I think would help make the trip even more fantastic is the catering for lunch and snacks. Perhaps you could have some dishes with rice and soup + some smalls snacks of furit like Bananas, since we all do get a little hungry after all the excitement. Packet rice is good, but a good lunch would top out the trip. I guess each group may have their own needs, but would be great if you could could accomodate this request.

Anyway, I am going to plan my next trip already and this one will be the Toman Lake outside Ratchaburi.

In the meantime, I wish you good health, tight lines and plenty of bookings. I will refer you on to my personal friends should they decide to head out to Bangkok for some fishing.

It was more of a tackle testing session for me. I was in fact giving more emphasis to allow my wifey to get a taste of luring and the thrill of a fight. From the start, John had impressed me with patient, professional and timely replies to my enquiries.

On the very day, he was not punctual, he was very early. Along the way to our destination on his very comfortable SUV, he was very hospitable.

On reaching location, John and his co-handler were very helpful, ensured everything was fine and even shared tips with my wifey and me.

At the end of the day, both my wifey and me walked away not as satisfied customers, but joyous friends of John. Great job John! I hope to return again with my friends soon, wifey is so wanting to tag along for future trips.

Finally you've fulfilled by long waited wish, "Redtail Cat"! Best of all, i just hope to land 1-2 pcs of this powerful fish, yet you've delivered much more than my expectation!

Although we didnt managed to get big arapaimas but these redtails are really good fighter! Best of all, we ended with the rare "redtail tiger", that's the best fighter among those redtail cats i fought earlier, no mercy, line just keep on going & going!

Most of all, really appreciate ur effort for guiding us thru and finding spots around the whole pond due to the slow bite rates in the earlier part of the day. Beside this, the whole trip was well taken care of.

What can i say, we've simply engaged the best fishing guide in town!

4 Fishing Buddies 4 Days Fishing Trip (Thailand)

As experienced, this trip was very fulfilling and John held his end of the deal with numerous fishes being landed. With us first timers to bangkok, we got a full day of fighting mekong catfish, tiring and exhausting yet satisfying.
Boon Ma was also very productive. the kims destroyed many of our lures and boy did they fight hard. The bite rate was incredible too. They also took fly, good fun for a fly rod.

Our third day was spent at IT monster lake and a large variety of fish were caught. From alligator gar to silver arowana and their famed Red tailed catfish which fought pretty well.

Our last day, was back at BSR for more mekong fun. To our suprise, we managed to land a big one, estimated at 80 kg according to the staff there at 80 kg. and another big one ran into the stakes and got away.
All in all it was a fruitful trip for all of us. Thanks to John and the pond operators for arranging and ensuring we had our hands busy fighting fish and happy. Muscles all aching now!

Mother Of Boon Ma Catch Report (Thailand) DAY 2

For DAY 2 fishing, we went for a little difficult catch at those giant barramundi ponds in Boon Ma with size range from 7-13kg.
You guys be surprised how many 8kg barra each of them landed today. With the biggest prized catch- a 10.5kg barra came from angler's Thomas.
